Can you explain the basic website development/design process?

The first, and possibly most important, step in the process is to meet with you and listen to you while you describe what you need and want from your site, and learn about your business. We want to know how you envision your site to look, how it will be used, who is your target audience, what special features are you looking for? After we are confident we understand what your needs are, we will present you with a proposal that will detail the pricing and various phases of the proposed project. After the contract is signed, we will work to design an interface that will reflect the look and feel you want, while building in user friendly and intuitive navigation. Once you have approved the design interface, we will use the material you supply, i.e. text, images, etc and construct your site. The site is then tested extensively. And, of course, we obtain your final approval before your new website is published.

How long does the process usually take after we sign the contract?

Although there are many factors that can affect the final publish date, most sites can be published within 45 days from the signing of the contract.

Can I update my own site once it is published, or will I need to contract with you to make changes?

Most websites need minor updating as your business changes and grows. Some clients choose to contract with us on a per hour basis to make those changes. Other clients prefer to make the changes themselves, at their own convenience, and with the frequency that makes sense to their particular business. We can build your site in a way that will allow you to do your own updates, without worrying about compromising the structure or design of the rest of the site.

Will I be able to observe my site’s progress as it is being built?

Once you have approved the interface and navigation designs, you can observe progress as it happens. We will supply you with the information you need to access the work-in-progress.

What if I have some changes to be made already before you are done?

Minor changes to text or graphics can be changed with ease during this phase. Significant changes resulting in design alterations, or changes that alter the size and scope of the project can be done as well, but may need to be renegotiated if not within the parameters of the original project contract.

Is there a limit to how many Flash Galleries I can have?

Gallery pricing is included with each contract, based on what we discuss with the client before preparing the proposal. Optional, additional galleries are also priced out on each contract.

What types of galleries are available to me? What are the differences in them?

Static image, flash/motion galleries, slideshows, and data base driven galleries are all available based on your needs.

Will I have control over how the content in my site is worded and organized?

Yes. You are the expert at your business, and we want your site to represent your story, told well. We may make suggestions along the way, especially if we feel it could help make your site more visible to major search engines, easier to navigate, or easier to understand but the final content decision always remains with you. And of course, we strive to present information that is adequately grammar and spell checked.

How does your cost compare to other Website design/development companies in the area?

Our prices are based on an “estimated time to complete” algorithm that considers best case, worst case, and most likely scenarios. All of the calculations are based on the information you provide to us about how your site should look, what it should say, and what features it should provide to your visitors. Do I need any additional special hardware or software once the site is complete?

Every project and client is different, but in general, no additional hardware is required. Of course, the speed of your internet connection will affect your internet experience. The only software, generally, that would need to be purchased after the site is published, is Adobe Contribute, for those clients who wish to update the content on their own sites.

Will you help me think of and secure a domain name?

Yes. If you do not already own a domain name, and would like assistance in finding a good name for your company, we can help you. We can make several suggestions for you, and we also have a tool on our Website that we encourage you to use. Will I be involved I the design process?

During our initial and subsequent meetings, up until contract signing, we will be discussing your site needs, and what it is you envision your site to look like. Based on that information, we will work to create an interface that will be a good fit. You can be as involved in this process as you’d like to be. Some clients want a lot of input into how the site looks and others don’t have any input to offer. In any case you, ultimately, will approve the interface design before the population of the content begins. We want the site and your web presence to be a positive reflection of you and your business.

How do I give you the information that I want placed on my site?

Text information should be provided in .doc format. Photos should be in JPG format, and other images should be in JPG, TIF, GIF, or PNG formats. If we are updating your existing site, and you need information transferred from the original site, simply provide a Word document clearly stating which information stays, which is to be eliminated, and which information should be added or altered. Handwritten information will be accepted, but there is a surcharge involved.

How can I tell how many visitors look at my site?

With every website that we host, we provide a basic statistics package that provides information about the number of visitors to your site, what pages they are looking at, what time of the day and day of the week they are coming to the site, and what keywords have been used in search engines to find your site among many other pieces of available information.
